Fall Newsletter Part 1

Happy Fall Everyone! We hope you all enjoyed some quality time on the trails this Summer season.

Backcountry Ski Trails - Save the dates on Oct 16th and November 6th for Winter Trail Work days on Ascutney. Join us Saturdays 8 to 12 noon at the AOC Trailhead where work will continue on Upper Broadway, lower intersection of Sitzmark and Old Ox, Fleet Street and improving the glade that is skiers left to Fleet Street.

Thank You Volunteers!!! - We invite volunteers to join the ATA board on October 16th from 1 PM to 3 PM (10/17 rain date) for a small ‘thank you’ gathering. We’ll meet at the AOC trail head and hand out ATA T-shirts and stickers to the many volunteers that make it happen on the trails. Thank you for your continued support in keeping the trails in shape and safe for hikers, trail runners and bikers.

Ascutney Day - The annual hike to the top of the mountain did not take place this year. Again, due to Covid-19 concerns in the Spring, and now with the rise in infection rates this Fall, we could not muster enough support to organize a gathering with food at the top of the mountain. Fingers crossed for next year..

High School Race - Wednesday October 13th 3PM Come to the AOC trailhead to witness talented and fit high school mountain bike athletes from Vermont and New Hampshire race the trails to see who's fastest on Ascutney Trails. We also need a few volunteers to be posted on the race course as trail marshals from 2 - 5PM. A great excuse to see all the action up close. Contact Stan Spencer stanspencer802@gmail.com for more information.

Board Updates - We had our annual Member Meeting on June 23rd in the pavilion up the Ascutney parkway. Thanks to those who joined us as we thanked outgoing board members Stan Spencer, Matt Kantola and Colin Eggleton for their volunteer contributions on the board and to the organization. We really appreciate their past and future efforts! Members present voted in Tim Banker, Shaun Pate and Mike Andersen for the new two-year term. Rob Knight was also re-elected to a second two-year term on the board.
