Directionally Challenged?
8/18/2026 Left/right, up/down, in/out, which is the way? Follow the map, but it won’t always say Ride up or down, as per your inclination Wrong way won’t mean eternal damnation Should you happen to get all turned around No downside to riding the up side down And, at times, a climb can turn out sublime Though double-black downhills may be your downfall I’m rarely inclined to ride a steep climb But, I’ll assent to a gentle ascent I am not up for drops, most of the time But won’

Ascutney Trail Closures - This Weekend
The Vermont Overland running and gravel bike races will be utilizing the Ascutney Trails on the mountain this weekend - August 15-16. They will be using more of our trails than in previous years. The ski area, Mile-Long Field and Town Forest trailhead areas will be closed Sunday during the running races, and there will be major trail disruptions in the Ascutney Outdoors Center area all weekend, starting Friday afternoon. To avoid these disruptions, we recommend using the Swoo

Forecast Forces Cancellation
Photo by Jennifer Hannux 7/28/2026 Looking ahead to the wettest week of the summer If I were somewhat dumber, I would call it a bummer But, when I say the Tuesday Night Ride is off, Don’t deride or scoff We’ve all had enough Yes, after all the riding that we did at the fest I must hereby attest That this is for the best TNR is cancelled. Go get some rest.

TNR Moved to Wednesday
Wondering ‘bout tonight’s weather Got the phone app here, better take a look-see Hoping it looks a bit better But, with the powers that are vested within me (After carefully taking a peak) I must hereby officially decree: Tuesday falls on a Wednesday this week We can't skip a last chance to get out and check the trails and ride routes before the fest. Same time, same station - 5:45 at AOC. Some of us may then drive to more appropriate starting points.

TNR?
7/21/2026 This coming Tuesday In case you wondered It looks (sounds) like thunder And what’s even more frightening That’s accompanied by lightning If it was definite lightning Cancellation would be the right thing But the way forecasts go I won’t, yet, call it a “NO” So, unless I post otherwise I hereby authorize Us to give it a shot From the AOC Lot Riding Tuesday would be beautiful But let’s not be delusional Yup, we’d sure love a chance To get prepped for the big dance But

5:45 at AOC
Ascutney Trails main network (a few years ago - many more miles since) When’ve I gotta drive To arrive at 5:45? Leaving at beer-thirty Would get me there too early If I left at 4:20 I’d get there With time aplenty But I’m not holding any And, why should I care? If it’s 5 o’clock somewhere I should be on a bar stool Or my comfy armchair Well, it’s not Thirsty Thursday Or TGI Friday It may be Wine o’clock But it’s the Tuesday Night Ride day So why did we decide That ‘stead of

It's Your Turn
6/30/2026 One bit of wisdom I heard from my mother She’d say, “One good turn deserves another” Don’t know what her term “turn” may stand for - The spins and the dips that she did on the dance floor? What other turns did she deserve? Being quite ladylike, She was never on skis, and she didn’t ever mountain bike As for us, this week, we’ll earn turns with ease Spinning our wheels as we dance through the trees We’ll be riding Mt. Peg, from 1489 South Rd. (Route 106, Woodstock).
